Abstract:A capillary gas chromatographic method for the determination of anthracene and phenanthrene in crude anthracene was established with external standard for quantification and N,N-dimethylacetamide as solvent. It was determined through experiment that the programmed-temperature conditions of chromatographic column were: to start at the initial temperature of 120 ℃ and keep for 4 min; to rise the temperature to 180 ℃ at 40 ℃/min and keep for 5 min; to rise the temperature to 200 ℃ at 40 ℃/min and keep for 5 min. The content of anthracene and phenanthrene was determined by the proposed method. Anthracene and phenanthrene showed a good linear relationship within 10-100 mg/L. The detection limit of anthracene and phenanthrene were 2.12×10-2 mg/L and 1.76×10-2 mg/L. The proposed method has been applied to determine anthracene and phenanthrene in three crude anthracene samples, and the relative standard deviation(RSD, n=8) was 0.59%-1.3%. Six crude anthracene samples were determined by proposed method, the results of phenanthrene were consistent with those of ultraviolet spectrophotmetry and the results of anthracene were consistent with those of chemical titration.
