Instructions for Authors

1 General Information
Metallurgical Analysis is sponsored by Central Iron & Steel Research Institute (CISRI), Chinese Society for Metals (CSM), and International Committee of Analysis in Steel and Iron Industry (ICASI).As an authoritative periodical devoted to analytical techniques in metallurgy, it aims to provide a forum for the rapid publication of original research and critical reviews dealing with all aspects of metallurgical analysis.
Metallurgical Analysis was initiated to publish bi-monthly in 1981. It started monthly publication since 2007. From 2008, it began to issue both in English and Chinese. It is included in SCOPUS Data Base, Chemical Abstracts Data Base (CA, USA), Chinese National Scientific and Technical Periodical Data Base, Chinese Core Periodical Data Base, Chinese Periodical Net and Chinese Wanfang Data Base.

2 Submission of manuscripts
Metallurgical analysis is published both in Chinese and English. For paper in English, it will be translated into Chinese and published in the Chinese version by Metallurgical Analysis, vice versa. Please provide an electronic version by e-mail. If you have any question, please contact us:

3 Types of contributions
Metallurgical Analysis publishes original research papers and critical reviews dealing with all aspects of metallurgical analysis.

  1. Research achievements and method developments of material chemical analysis;
  2. Characterization and expression of material structure and development of material structure analysis techniques;
  3. Detecting and monitoring techniques for production process control;
  4. Sampling and sample preparation;
  5. On-line analysis and control;
  6. Surface and coating analysis;
  7. Health and environmental analysis;
  8. Quality control and laboratory management;
  9. Advanced reviews on different fields of material analysis & testing techniques;
  10. Standardization, certification, accreditation and verification.
Submitted works should make a new scientific contribution to the corresponding area of knowledge.

4 Manuscript preparation
General
The paper should be written with clarity, conciseness and consistency in both language style and form.

  1. Abbreviations should be used consistently throughout the whole manuscript. Do not use abbreviations in the title or keywords. Non-standard abbreviations must be defined at their first occurrence in both the abstract and the main body.
  2. Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should be used only where the information is more effectively presented in tabular or figure form than in the body of the text. The content of tables and figures should not overlap. Tables, figures and curves in a figure should be numbered with Arabic numerals, respectively. Figures should be presented in 50 mm*50 mm; Tables should be three-line table. Column headings should be as short as possible but units must be defined unambiguously. When necessary, footnotes could be provided and denoted by superscript a, b,c….

Manuscript framework
Title
All manuscripts should be headed by a concise but informative title. Subtitles should be avoided.

Title and author information
For all authors, last (family) name should be provided in capitals preceding the first name (given name). Below this information the institutional address should be written in a separate line in the following format: department, organization, city and zip code, country. If several affiliations need to be mentioned, consecutive Arabic numerals should precede the address and these numerals must also be placed as superscript after the respective author’s name. For more than one authors, at least one author must be designated with an asterisk as the person to whom correspondence should be addressed.
At the foot of the first page, a brief introduction of the first author and corresponding author should be provided, which include: FAMILY NAME, First name (19**-), male/female, final degree or the title of a technical post, research fields, Tel:××××-××-×××× ××××, E-mail: ×××@××.××. If the research is supported by a foundation, the name of the foundation should also be provided.

Abstract and Keywords
The abstract (200-300 words) should be comprised of research purpose, research methods and procedures, and results and conclusion, with emphasis on the innovation information of the research.
The abstract should be followed by 4-6 keywords in the next line. They should be separated by a semicolon.

Introduction
The introduction (300-600 words) should introduce the background and main purpose of the research work. The work relevant to the topic especially in recent years should be summarized, and the reference numbers cited in the text are set in square brackets as superscript. Please illuminate the difference between the new work and former research work, and the significance of the reported work.

1 Experimental
The experimental methods should be described after the introductory material. Detailed experimental descriptions should be restricted to one section of the paper. Sufficient details should be given to allow any experienced worker to implement the procedures described. Procedural steps should not be numbered.
2 Results and Discussion
This part should be the main body of the manuscript. It may include some Headings in Second Level (e.g. 2.1,2.2,…) and some Headings in Third Level (e.g. 2.1.1,2.1.2,…).
3 Conclusion
The conclusion should include key findings of research, quantitative analytical performance figures (if appropriate) and their significance to real samples.
Acknowledgement
For most of manuscripts, this part is unnecessary. If it should be kept, please make it as short as possible.
References
The references should be numbered in the order of their appearance in the text (not alphabetically). If there are more than three authors, only three of them should be listed followed by “et al”. Last (Family) name should be given before given name and only the initial letter of given name needs to be listed. Reference numbers in the text are set in square brackets on the line. The basic formats of references are as follows:
[1] Kozono S W, Haraguchi H. Determination of trace iron in indium phosphide wafer by on-line matrix separation and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry [J]. Anal. Chim. Acta, 2003, 482(2):189-196.
[2] GB/T 14673-93. Determination of vanadium in water, Graphit Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry [S].

5 Copy right
If the article is accepted, authors will be automatically asked to transfer the copyright. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.

6 Procedure after acceptance
Upon acceptance of an article, a letter will be sent to the corresponding author confirming the acceptance of the manuscript as soon as possible. The manuscript accepted by Metallurgical Analysis will be sent by e-mail to corresponding author to modify and check for errors. After modified, the manuscript should be returned to the editorial office as soon as possible and labeled with article number & “modified”.
The corresponding author, at no cost will be provided with a copy of the periodical, 10 free paper off prints by special delivery and an electronic copy of the periodical.
