Abstract:High precision is required for the analysis of total iron content which has a wide range of concentration in iron ores. Fusion bead method has been commonly used in X-ray fluorescence spectrometry for the iron ore analysis. However, there is a strong demand of using pressed pellet method because it is simple and quick sample preparation method. Compton scattering ratio method, in which the intensity ratio of fluorescent X-rays to Compton scattering X-rays from X-ray tube line is used for the calibration, has been common for the determination of heavy elements in samples such as rocks. However, this method does not give adequate accuracy for high content heavy elements in ores and concentrates. A new method in which inter-element correction term using theoretical alphas obtained by a fundamental parameter method is added to Compton scattering ratio calibration has been developed, and 0.14% (mass fraction) of accuracy for total iron determination in iron ores could be achieved.
