Study on the influence of measurement uncertainty on evaluation results of gas detection proficiency testing by En score method

Abstract:During the proficiency testing work of environmental air monitoring, the gas samples are usually prepared using the way of one-bottle-by-one-bottle due to the influence of gas container and filling method. The designated value of gas sample in each bottle will have certain difference. Therefore, the proficiency testing results of gas detection are usually evaluated by the En score method. When the En score method was used, the measurement uncertainty in laboratory will directly influence on the evaluation results of proficiency testing. The correct evaluation of measurement uncertainty in laboratory in the necessary condition for the rational use of En score method. The proficiency testing plan of SO2 detection in air was used as an example. The relationship between En scores and uncertainty was analyzed to obtain the effective range of measurement uncertainty in laboratory. The standard deviation of proficiency testing evaluation in two laboratories was 0.64 μmol/mol and 1.23 μmol/mol, respectively. The effective range of uncertainty was 0.34-1.92 μmol/mol and 0.66-3.69 μmol/mol, respectively. It provided reference for effectively evaluating the laboratory results by En score method and guiding laboratory to effectively evaluate the measurement uncertainty.
