Abstract:During the production of zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating steel sheets, the coating mass per unit area and the composition of alloying elements in coating were important evaluation parameters for the quality of products. The coating mass per unit area, the elemental distribution in coating and the contents of alloying elements in zinc-magnesium-aluminum coating were discussed. The coating mass per unit area was measured by gravimetric method. The corrosion solution was composed of 4.5g/L hexamethylenetetramine-hydrochloric acid (1+1). The surface morphology of coating was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The composition in micro-zone was analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The distribution characteristic of different phases in the coating as well as the distribution rule of elements in different phases was found out. The contents of aluminum, magnesium and iron in the coating were simultaneously determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The proposed method was applied for the determination of aluminum, magnesium and iron in the coating of hot-dip galvanizing zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating steel plate. The relative standard deviation (RSD, n=6) of the determination results for aluminum, magnesium and iron was 0.80%, 0.76% and 1.4%, respectively. The recoveries were between 97% and 102%.
