Abstract:Mass spectrometer is composed of several modules such as system power control, lens power supply, data acquisition and vacuum measurement, etc. The mutual communication is required among modules. The traditional mode of data communication includes RS232 bus and RS485 bus. However, these buses are not suitable for the high-speed and stable data transmission requirements among modules of mass spectrometer due to the communication rate and reliability of data transmission. Therefore, the controller area network (CAN) bus technique, which is mature in industrial control field, was introduced into the design of mass spectrometer. The design combined the advanced RISC machine (ARM) microprocessor with CAN bus with high reliability. The point-to-point data transmission in mass spectrometer was realized. Moreover, the data transmission of multi-point communication was also realized. The maximum communication speed was up to 1 MB/s, which could completely meet the communication requirements among internal modules of mass spectrometer. The design had been successfully used in the control system of mass spectrometer. The tests indicated that the design of this system was simple. Meanwhile, the data communication was stable and reliable.
