Abstract:The influencing factors during the determination of mercury in soil and sediment by pyrolysisgold amalgam trapatomic absorption spectrometry were discussed. Twelve certified reference materials of soil and sediment with content range of 14-1 700 ng/g were selected to verify the applicability of experimental method. The sampling amount, the maintenance of nickel boat and the elimination of memory effect were suggested. The orthogonal experiments showed that the decomposition temperature was the main influencing factor. The decomposition temperature should be preferentially set during the instrument debugging. The optimal instrumental conditions were listed as follows: drying temperature of 250 ℃, drying time of 20 s, decomposition temperature of 800 ℃ and decomposition time of 180 s. The results indicated that when the content of mercury in soil or sediment was higher than 30 ng/g, the relative error and the relative standard deviation of the experimental method were not higher than 21.4% and 4.3%, respectively, which could meet the requirements of HJ/T 166-2004 The Technical Specification for Soil Environmental monitoring. The proposed method was applied to determination of mercury in farmland soil near smelting enterprise, bottom sediment from one reservoir, and the sludge from one wastewater treatment plant. The results were between 85.7 and 9.06×103 ng/g. The relative standard deviations (RSD,n=6) were not higher than 4.4%.
