Abstract:The sample was fused with sodium peroxide. The Fe3+ in acidified sample solution was reduced to Fe2+ by the hydrides generated from the strong hydrolysis of potassium borohydride in sulfuric acid medium. The copper sulfate was used as reducing indicator and catalyst. The ammonium fluoride was used as complexing reagent. Then, the content of total iron in iron ore was determined by potassium dichromate titration method. The coexisting copper ions in iron ore had no influence on the determination of total iron. The vanadium and titanium were masked with ammonium fluoride, and also had no interference in the determination. The proposed method was applied to the determination of total ion in national certified reference materials of iron ore. The found results were consistent with the certified values. The relative standard deviation (RSD) was less than 2%.
