Abstract:The polluted river sediments in mining area have the characteristics of high total sulfur content, low organic sulfur content and carry-over of many heavy metal elements. The pretreatment method of coal for the determination of total sulfur was referenced in this study. The samples were treated by alkali fusion at 800 ℃ for 2 h with Eschka reagent. The sulfur species were all converted to easily soluble sulfates. Then, the content of sulfate was determined by ion chromatography after ultrasonic extraction with water. The analysis results showed that the rivers in northern Guangdong Dabaoshan mining area were severely polluted by acidy wastewater. The total sulfur content in river sediments was up to 4.47-44.58 mg/g. The process control of determination method was investigated. The effect of addition amount and placement mode of alkali fusion reagent, the crucible pretreatment and temperature control on the precision and accuracy of method was discussed in detail. The corresponding evadable measures were proposed. The availability of evadable measure was verified by the recovery test of anhydrous calcium sulfate. The results indicated that the recovery was 88.7%±4.92%. The proposed method was applicable for the analysis of samples in this case. Moreover, it exhibited some advantages such as simple operation and rapid analysis.
