Separation of gold in Rhodamine B-ethanol system by green extraction phase

Abstract:The extraction behaviors of Rodamin B-ethyl alcohol system on gold and the conditions for separation of gold from other metal ions were studied. It was found that ethyl alcohol-water solution could be separated into two phases of ethyl alcohol and water with the effect of ammonium sulfate. During the phase separation process, the complex [AuCl4-][RhB+] formed with AuCl4- and Rodamin B (RhB) could be completely extracted by ethyl alcohol. In the solution containing 0.2 mg/mL Rodamin B, 0.3 g/mL ammonium sulfate and 30% (V/V) ethyl alcohol, the extraction rate of AuCl4- could reach above 98.3 %, while Ni2+, Sn4+, Mg2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, Al3+, Ru3+, Pb2+, Ti4+, Co2+ and Ag+ was basically not extracted. Thus, Au3+ was separated from the above metal ions.
