Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometric determination of aluminum, phosphorus, manganese, iron, nickel, arsenic, tin, stibium and lead in copper plating of steel wire
Abstract:A new method for the determination of Al, P, Mn, Fe, Ni, As, Sn, Sb and Pb in the copper plating of steel wire by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) was proposed. The copper plating was peeled off from steel wire by dilute aqueous ammonia and hydrogen peroxide and then plating solution was acidified with HCl after the steel wire was pulled out. Wavelengths of 309.271 , 178.284 , 257.610 , 238.204 , 231.604 , 189.042 , 189.989 , 206.833 and 182.205 nm were selected as analytical lines for the determination of Al, P, Mn, Fe, Ni, As, Sn, Sb and Pb, respectively. Under the optimized experimental conditions, these elements were determined with ICP-AES. The signal intensity of these elements showed a linear relationship with their mass fraction in the ranges of 0.05-15.0 mg/L for Al, 0.05-1.0 mg/L for P, 0.05-15.0 mg/L for Mn , 0.05-15.0 mg/L for Fe , 0.05-20.0 mg/L for Ni, 0.05-1.0 mg/L for As, 0.05-1.0 mg/L for Sn, 0.05-1.0 mg/L for Sb and 0.05-15.0 mg/L for Pb. The detection limits (3 S/N) were 0.009, 0.015, 0.001, 0.010, 0.002, 0.003, 0.009, 0.007 and 0.010 mg/L, respectively. The proposed method was applicable to the determination of Al, P, Mn, Fe, Ni, As, Sn, Sb and Pb in the copper plating of steel wire, with recoveries in the range of 96%-107% and the relative standard deviation (RSD) (n=6) in the range of 0.46%-4.1%. The found values of different methods agreed well with each other.
