Determination of nineteen impurity elements in rhodium powder by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometrywith multi-component spectral fitting correction

Abstract:A new method for the determination of nineteen impurity elements including Pt, Pd, Ru, Ag, Cu, Fe, Zn, Ni, Mn, Mg, Al, Ca, Sn, Ir, Na, Au, Si, Pb, K in rhodium powder by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) was developed. The samples were dissolved in HCl-H2O2 by microwave digestion. Multi-component spectral fitting correction (MSF) was used for eliminating the spectral interference from matrix rhodium to Pt, Ir, Au, while background deduction of instrument were adopted for correcting matrix effect. There was no interference between impurity elements. The detection limits(μg/mL)of the method were 0.051 for Pt, 0.008 0 for Pd, 0.015 for Ru, 0.008 5 for Ag, 0.007 9 for Cu, 0.015 for Fe, 0.032 for Zn, 0.035 for Ni, 0.007 5 for Mn, 0.005 5 for Mg, 0.006 6 for Al, 0.030 for Ca, 0.035 for Sn, 0.030 for Ir, 0.013 for Na, 0.026 for Au, 0.045 for Si, 0.025 for Pb and 0.005 7 for K. The standard addition recoveries were from 88.1% to 112.3% and the relative standard derivation from 1.7% to 5.2%. The method hasd been applied to the analysis of practival samples.
