Abstract:In order to accurately measure the blank value in the determination of low-carbon in steel by caustic asbestos absorption gravimetric method, the fusing carbon of the porcelain boat used in the experiment was investigated. The results showed that under the effect of two different melts, namely, the flux and the sample, the porcelain boat containing only the flux and the porcelain boat containing both flux and sample showed different fusing ratio of carbon, larger for the former than the latter. Due to different fusing ratios of carbon in the porcelain boats, the measured blank values were also different. During sample analysis, because the porcelain boat contained both the sample and the flux, if the determination result of carbon was calculated with the blank value obtained when the porcelain contained only the flux without the sample, the result would be inaccurate. So, whether it is the gravimetric method or other comparative analysis, the fusing blank of carbon in the porcelain bank during the sample analysis has to be obtained. When the sample analysis results are calculated, the blank value obtained when the porcelain contained only the flux without the sample could not be directly deducted, and it’s necessary to deduct the blank value when the porcelain boat contained both the flux and the sample, which is of significant importance for the determination of trace carbon in the sample.
