The application of NORDTEST uncertainty evaluation to the determination of ten major and minor components in rocks by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry with fusion sample preparation

Abstract:The application of NORDTEST uncertainty evaluation to the determination results of 10 major and minor components (including Na2O, MgO, Al2O3, SiO2, P2O5, K2O, CaO, TiO2, MnO and Fe2O3) in rock samples by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry with fusion sample preparation was reported. According to the NORDTEST rules, the uncertainty of the determination results of 10 components in 3 national Grade One certified reference materials, namely, GBW07104, GBW07105 and GBW07106, was assessed. It was found that the concentration of SiO2 with noticeable concentration gradients have good correlation with the obtained relative uncertainty values, and the correlation coefficient (R2)was 0.953 9. The relative uncertainty obtained between a single certified reference material and 3 certified reference materials had comparatively large discrepancy for the low content components and similar uncertainty results for the other components.
