Abstract:With cool plasma model, with 57Fe as internal standard, a determination method for the elements in iron and steel materials by single point laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) was established. Abrasive paper made of aluminium oxide, when used for surface processing, could introduce pollution; the surface roughness of the samples didn’t affect the experimental results; except Ti, the sample diameter showed no obvious effect on the experimental results; the fractionation indexes (FI) of As and Sn were 0.85 and 0.83, respectively and exerted fractionation effect, while other elements, whose FI was in the range of 0.93-1.05, showed no fractionation effect; different series of certified reference materials were used for curve fitting, and except Si, P and S, other elements all had relative coefficients higher than 0.95, without any obvious matrix effect. 34S could be used in the determination of sulfur but not that of carbon. A method was established for the determination of Al, Si, P, S, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, As, Mo and Sn in low alloy steel and steel wire, the measurements of the certified reference materials being consistent with the certified values, RSD (n=5) for each elements was in the range of 0.7% - 8.7% (RSD of Ti exceeding 17%). The method is also applicable to the determination of V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Mo and Sn in other steel materials and thus has practical importance.
