Abstract:This paper studied the influence of sample milling technique on the determination precision of spark source atomic emission spectrometry. The influence of three critical milling parameters including milling depth, milling speed and feed rate on the determination precision for samples of different compositions was investigated with spark source atomic emission spectrometry, and the optimum milling parameter scope in the treatment of pig iron and low, medium, high carbon steel analytes was determined as milling depth being no less than 0.30 mm,and milling speed and feed rate being in the ranges of 300-900 r/min and 200-800 mm/min,respectively. Experimental results showed that when samples of different carbon contents were treated within the above ranges of milling parameters, the accuracy of spectral analysis results was all better than those for the sample prepared by the grinding technique and could meet the requirements in daily detection.
