Abstract:The behaviors of phase extraction and enrichment of thallium in the propanol-sodium chloride-rhodamine B system and the conditions for separation of thallium from some metal ions were studied. The results showed that sodium chloride could divided the aqueous solution of propanol into two phases, and in the phase separation,TlCl4- and rhodamine B (RhB) could form [TlCl4-][RhB+] which could be completely extracted by propanol phase. When the mass concentrations of rhodamine B and sodium chloride were 0.26 mg / mL and 0.17 g / mL,respectively, and the propanol volume fraction was 30% in the solution,Tl3+ achieved an extraction rate of 98.7 % or more, and Ni2+,Cu2+,Ru3+,Co2+,Fe3+,Cr3+,Mg2+ and Ag+ were basically not extracted,so the separation of Tl3+ from the metal ions was achieved. Synthetic water samples were tested for separation and determination of thallium, and the results were satisfactory.
