Abstract:A qualitative phase analysis of aluminum complex deoxidizer was conducted with a metallurgical microscope and an X-ray diffractometer. The sample was treated with a strong alkali and solubilized with H2O2. Nitric acid was added to neutralize the strong alkali and dissolve salts. The solution was filtered to separate the metallic aluminum from aluminum oxide. The precipitate was treated with ashing at low temperature. Flux was added to conduct high-temperature fusion. Hydrochloric acid was used for extraction,and the determination was conducted with fluoride salt replacement EDTA complexometric titration. The influence of sample granularity,sample dissolution method and water-soluble aluminum on the determination was investigated. The method was used in the determination of metallic aluminum and aluminum oxide in aluminum complex deoxidizer with the recovery in the range of 97 % - 105 %and the relative standard deviation less than 1.0%,and the measured results were consistent with those obtained by high-valence metallic salt oxi-complexation back titration. Tests showed that the proposed method solved the difficulty in separation of aluminum from aluminum oxide in aluminum complex deoxidizer and achieved fine precision and accuracy of the sample measurement results,so it is appropriate for phase analysis of metallic aluminum and aluminum oxide in aluminum complex deoxidizer.
