Abstract:Copper had obvious catalytic effect on the oxidization reaction of “Sunset Yellow” by H2O2 in boric acid buffer solution. The reaction product had maximum absorption peak at 530 nm. Based on this principle, the direction determination method of copper in river water by flow injection-catalytic spectrophotometry was established. The parameters of flow injection system were optimized. The selected experimental conditions were as follows: the flow rate of carrier solution (C), the coloring solution (R1), the coloring solution (R2) and sample solution (S) was 0.75 mL/min, 0.30 mL/min, 0.30 mL/min and 0.55 mL/min, respectively; the length of reaction loop (L) was 2 m; the volume of sampling ring was 350 μL. The concentration of used reagents was optimized. The selected concentration for “Sunset Yellow” and H2O2 was 0.027 g/L and 0.005 mol/L, respectively. The pH of buffer solution was 9.8. The concentration of copper in range of 20-1 000 μg/L showed good linearity to the peak height with correlation coefficient of 0.999. The detection limit of method was 1.5 μg/L. The copper in river water was analyzed. The found results were consistent with those obtained by national standard method. The relative standard deviations (RSD) were between 0.48% and 1.2%.
