Abstract: Cobalt Ⅱ had a sensitive polarographic wave in hexamethylene tetramine-2-(5-iodo-2-pyridine azo)-5-dimethylaminoaniline-NH2OH·HCl system. The peak potential VP was –1.22 V (vs. SCE). The peak current IP’ showed a good linear relationship to the mass concentration of cobalt Ⅱ in the range of 3-40 μg/L. The detection limit of method was 0.47 μg/L. The polarographic wave properties of this system were studied. The results showed that this wave was complex adsorption wave. The electrode process was irreversible and the electron transfer number was 2. The proposed method was applied to the determination of trace cobalt in nickel ore sample. The relative standard deviation of determination results was 1.8 % and the recovery of standard addition was 110 %.
