Determination of chromium, arsenic, cadmium, tin, antimony, lead and bismuth in iron concentrate by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

Abstract:A method for simultaneous determination of chromium, arsenic, cadmium, tin, antimony, lead and bismuth in iron concentrate by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was established. The sample was melted with anhydrous sodium carbonate-boric acid mixture flux at 950 ℃, then the fusion cake was leached with hydrochloric acid for determination of tin, antimony, bismuth, and another fusion cake was leached with nitric acid solution for determination of chromium, arsenic, cadmium, lead. The instrument working conditions were optimized; the possible spectral interference could be eliminated by selecting appropriate analytical isotopes; the matrix effect and signal shift could be corrected effectively by internal standard of rhodium for determination of chromium, arsenic, cadmium, tin, antimony and internal standard of thallium for determination of lead and bismuth. This method has been applied to determine iron concentrate samples. The results were consistent with those obtained by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry and the relative standard deviations were 4.3%-8.6%.
