Determination of NH4+ and NO3- in salt-water system by distillation—acid-base titration

Abstract:The traditional analysis method faced great challenges due to the highprecision requirement of solubility data in watersalt system. In this study, the sampling, distillation equipment and titration of traditional distillation acidbase titration method (national standard method) were improved. The content of NH4Cl-H2O、Mg(NO3)2-H2O、CaCl2-NH4Cl-H2O and MgCl2-NH4Cl-H2O systems was determined using the improved method. The results showed that the determination error of NH4+ and NO3- was within 0.1 % and 0.15 %, respectively. The improved distillation acidbase titration was also suitable for the accurate determination of total nitrogen content (nitrogen in ammonium and nitrogen in nitrate) in inorganic chemical products, except application for the determination of NH4+ or NO3- in above-mentioned system.
