Abstract:Select representative samples of laterite nickel ore as the calibration. A method has been developed for the rapid determination of Fe, Ni, Cr, Mn, Ti, Zn, Ca in nickel laterite ore by portable energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer with pressed powder sample pellets. In order to to solve the shortage of laterite nickel reference sample, the major element iron in calibration samples were certificated by titration method, and other elements were certificated by ICP-AES method. The pretreatment method and determination conditions of laterite calibration samples were also discussed. Calibration and test samples were grinded to almost the same particle size, so that the interference of particle effects was reduced. NDTr software built in the instrument, which contains fundamental parameter method (FP method), was used to correct the effect of mutual interference between the elements automatically. The relative standard deviations (n=7) were in the range between 0.16% and 8.3%. The test results got from this method were agreed well with those obtained by chemical method at the actual analysis of lateritic nickel ore. The proposed method can meet the requirement of fast analysis of major and minor elements in batch samples on site.
