Abstract:Single chemical analysis method of andalusite cannot meet the geological requirements. The original ore of andalusite from different areas must be tested through condition experiments to determine the monomineral. Andalusite can be determined by titration and gravimetry after chemical phase separation, but the process is long and the operation is complicated. According to the composition characteristics of andalusite ore from Xinjiang region, the content of andalusite in ore was preliminarily analyzed by chemical phase method. The sample was treated by cold leaching overnight in hydrofluoric acid-hydrochloric acid-nitric acid mixture to separate andalusite from other associated minerals. After filtration, the residue was melted with sodium hydroxide. The content of aluminum oxide was determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The correction coefficient was obtained using the dissolution rate of andalusite in artificial simulation sample, thus the content of andalusite could be calculated. The proposed method was applied for the determination of andalusite in ore. The relative standard deviations (RSD, n=6) of determination results were between 0.30% and 1.9%. The found results were consistent with those obtained by the gravimetric and titration methods. The proposed method effectively solved the problems in andalusite determination such as long process and complicated operation, and it could be applied for the determination of andalusite content in ore from Xinjiang region.
