Abstract:Demand for high purity materials analysis is increasing as our world requires ever more advanced and higher performance materials. Although the performance of glow discharge mass spectrometry has improved, one remaining problem is “memory effect”. In this paper, ten trace impurities (Mg, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn, As, Hg, Pb) in ultra high purity copper samples were determined respectively by glow discharge mass spectrometry before and after the determination of zinc samples. The results for the two determination were consistent, especially the content of trace zinc, which indicated that the "memory effect" could be eliminated by cleaning glow discharge cell alone when changing the sample matrix.
