Abstract:Massive analysis and studies are conducted on the types, morphologies and chemical compositions of inclusions in seamless pipes with LM, SEM and EDS. The results indicate that in the seamless pipes of manganese and chrome molybdenum steel, type A inclusions, which are strips in light gray color, are composed of most manganese sulfides and some composite inclusions, i.e. manganese sulfides and oxides, manganese sulfides and nitrides, and type B, which are dark gray inclusions in chains, are composed of most calcium aluminates and some composite inclusions of calcium aluminates and granular oxides, and type C inclusions, which are black grey strips, are composed of manganese silicates, and some iron manganese silicates and manganese sulfides, and type D and DS, which are globular inclusions in black gray color, are mainly composite inclusions of calcium aluminosilicate and magnesia alumina spinel. Besides the five types of inclusions mentioned above, non-traditional globular inclusions are mainly composite inclusions of calcium aluminosilicate in the center and calcium sulfides covered outsides, and some calcium sulfides. In microalloy steel pipes (such as the pipe added V, Nb, Ti), there are also some precipitated phases of tangerine nitrides, light red carbonitrides or offwhite carbides. It was found that synthetical characterization of target inclusion could supply significant support for improving the performance of product and optimizing the production processes. Moreover, the origins, formation mechanism and hazards of inclusions are also discussed in this article.
