Abstract:Generally, to meet various customer requirement, different coating will be spreaded or treated on the steel sheet surface. The main chemical composing and thickness of the coating are key parameters which will affect usage of the steel sheet product directly. Therefore, how to characterise the thin coating fast, correctly and reliably is important in industry. In the literature, there are various methods to meet the characterisation of the thin coating which is made up of inorganic, organic or complex compound. This paper introduced these methods, and analyzed the traits of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry(XRF) and direct measuring methods such as scanning electron microscope (SEM). The author selected some samples with thin coatings. The coating weight is measured by XRF, and the thickness is tried to be verified by SEM and energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS).
