Study on extraction and enrichment of gallium by phase separation with rhodamine B1propanolsodium chloride system

Abstract:The phase separation extraction behavior of gallium with rhodamine B1propanolsodium chloride system was investigated, as well as the separation conditions of gallium from other metal ions. The results showed that the aqueous solution of 1propanol could be divided into two phases in the presence of sodium chloride. The association complex of [GaCl4-][RhB+] formed by GaCl4- and rhodamine B (RhB) could be completely extracted by 1propanol during this process. When the concentrations of rhodamine B, sodium chloride, 1propanol and hydrochloric acid were 04 g/L, 02 g/mL,30 % (V/ V) and 005-1 mol/L,respectively, the extraction yield of GaCl4- was up to 97.7 %. Meanwhile, other metal ions including Fe2+, Co2+, Mg2+, Ag+, Cu2+, Ru3+, Ni2+ and Cr3+ were not extracted, realizing the separation of Ga3+ from these metal ions.
