Abstract:Determination of sulfur in coal tar was studied by tube furnace combustion-infrared absorption method in this paper. The effects of operating parameters on the determination of sulphur were investigated and optimized, such as furnace temperature, delay time, comparison level and sample weight. It was found that the determination range of sulphur was 0.005%-4% (mass fraction) under the condition of 900 ℃ of furnace temperature, 30 s of delay time, 1.0 of comparison level and 0.100-0.200 g of sample weight. The correlation coefficient of linear calibration curve was higher than 0.9, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was less than 3 %. The determination results by this proposed method were in consistence with those obtained by national standard method GB387-90(air current-tube furnace combustion-sulphurous acid-sodium hydroxide titration).
