Determination of fluorine in copper concentrate by oxygen flask combustion-ion chromatography

Abstract:The detection of fluorine ion by organic matter combustion was applied to the determination of fluorine in copper concentrate. The analysis method of fluorine in copper concentrate by oxygen flask combustion-ion chromatography was established. Since the original copper concentrate was hardly to be combusted, the cellulose was doped for combustion supporting (the optimal mass ratio of cellulose and copper concentrate was 7:1). The copper concentrate sample was prepared by pressing method. After improved oxygen flask combustion, the gases were absorbed with water. The absorbent passed through 0.22 μm microfiltration membrane and entered into ion chromatograph for the determination of fluorine ion. The result showed that the correlation coefficient of calibration curve within linear range (0.100-2.000 mg/L) was r>0.999. The detection limit of fluorine was 2.31 μg/L. The proposed method was applied to the determination of fluorine in copper concentrate sample. The relative standard deviations (RSD, n=5) were between 1.8% and 4.5%, and the recoveries were between 92% and 97%.The experimental method was used for the determination of fluorine content in standard sample of copper concentrate. The found results were consistent with the certified values. The method comparison tests indicated that the determination results of this method were basically consistent with those obtained by national standard method GB/T 3884.5—2012.
