Determination of trace gold in gold ore by inhibitory kinetic spectrophotometry with azophloxine-potassium bromate

Abstract:In phosphorus acid, gold could inhibit the fading reaction of azophloxine oxidized by potassium bromate. According to this principle, a new method was established for the determination of trace gold. The optimum reaction conditions and kinetic parameters were investigated for this inhibitory fading reaction. The results showed the mass concentration of gold within the range of 2.00~20.0 μg/L had an excellent linear relationship with the absorbance difference (ΔA) between inhibitory reaction and non-inhibitory reaction. The linear correlation coefficient was 0.997 8 and the detection limit was 5.74×10-7 g/L. The reaction rate constant was 1.60×10-3 /s and the apparent activation energy was 202.91 kJ/mol. When the method was applied in determination of gold in gold ore certified reference materials, the results were consistent with the certified values. The relative standard deviations (RSD, n=6) were less than 2.5% and the recoveries were 98%-106%.
